It states what organisations need to do to keep children safe, and what different bodies and the general public should do if they are concerned about a child’s safety and welfare. A new child protection and welfare training course for the early years sector is now available and is being delivered by accredited trainers in Tipperary Childcare Committee. Under Children First Act 2015, Mandated Reporting starts on December 11th, 2017. If you are employed in a childcare service and work directly with children, you are a mandated reporter. The following links : http://www.tusla.ie/children-first/children-first-e-learning-programme or http://childrenfirstuniversal.hseland.ie/ will allow you to undertake an online information module on the subject (‘Introduction to Children First’). This online course needs to be completed before booking a Child Protection Foundation course with Tipperary Childcare Committee. Child Protection Foundation courses will restart in 2018 as soon as all materials have been updated. HSE Regulations Garda vetting procedures: All childcare providers, practitioners and H.S.E. notified childminders must avail of Garda Vetting for all their staff, students and volunteers, under the Child Care (Pre-school Services) Regulations 2006. implementation of a robust Child Protection and Welfare Policy. The purpose of this course is to support early years services to develop, implement and review their Child Protection and Welfare Policy.
The information in this course and its documentation has been derived from: Children First:National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children and Our Duty to Care – The Principles of Good Practice for the Protection of Children and Young People, it will support services to develop policies which are consistent with both.
